You have missed your period this time and just waiting for two blue lines on a stick. Woo-Hoo and you see the two vertical lines
that would now change your entire life. Congratulations! It is time for a new
member in the family. Yes the entire house is of course on Cloud 9. Now that
you are carrying a new life you need to be cautious about few things. Below are some quick tips for your first month pregnancy.
1. Schedule
an appointment with your gynac/midwife
As soon as you confirm at home with
urine pregnancy kit that you are expecting you should go ahead and fix your
appointment with your mid-wife. When you meet them do not hide any information
from them; past history, current allergies, morning sickness if any or any
other such things. Only if you provide complete information they will be able
to give you proper advice. You can decide later if you want to continue with
the same gynac for delivery or require a change.
2. Cut
on alcohol and junk food
Now that you know you are pregnant you
are not only eating for yourself but eating for the new life as well. It is
very important that you cut down on all the junk food and alcohol especially in
the first weeks as at this stage the egg requires maximum nutrition to grow. Hence,
have your fridge filled with lot of fruits, vegetables and dry fruits. Also, do
not forget to consume water all throughout the day.
3. Start
with probiotics
Your gynac or mid-wife will surely
suggest some of the probiotics which include folic acid, calcium, vitamin and
iron. You might get some additional depending on your check ups. Do not miss to
take the same. These probiotics should be with you till you give birth and some
of them post the birth as well. Take it as a ritual as per the prescription.
4. Take
care on Vaginal infection
In the first weeks the level of Estrogen
hormone is generally high and this can cause vaginal infection which is not
safe for the baby. Hence it is advisable that you keep a watch on the same. If
you feel itchy or if your vagina has a smelly discharge immediately inform your
midwife. The best way to avoid infection is by keeping it clean; however,
before using any vagina wash kindly confirm the same with your midwife.
5. Sexual
relations
Pregnancy does not put an end to your
sexual life; however, it is noticed that 80% of the miscarriage happens in the
first few weeks of pregnancy. Hence in order to avoid any mishaps one of the
precautions is to stay away from sex atleast for the first few weeks; however,
you can still make love with your partner. You can still go ahead and confirm
with your mid wife about keeping sexual relations; they will be in a better
position to guide you.
Apart from the above things you also
need to ensure that you are stress free and relaxed. A happy woman will give
birth to a healthy child. Yoga and meditation should be added to your to-do
list from now onwards. You can read about the coming months in the relevant
articles. Good Luck with your baby.
